365 Vintage Days: 313. Casbah Skirt

Casbah is the name of the fabric of the skirt. In my blogpost number 83, published  on May 23rd, I presented that same skirt but in black, blue and pink. Today’s is tan (or beige), with orange, yellow, white, dark brown and black print of an oriental old city: the Casbah. This same fabric was also used for a dress pictured in the Lana Lobell Fashion Magazine (mail order catalogue from 1956 or 57) and was available in pink, beige or blue. I wear the skirt with a brown blouse, dark brown belt, purse and sling back suede heels. I also have yellow and orange bakelite bangles and orange bakelite earrings.

I purchased this skirt last April from a vintage shop on Haight Street in San Francisco, called Decades of Fashion. The blouse is a very old find, purchased in Paris in the early 90′s or even late 80′s. The purse is from ebay, the belt is either from Boss Vintage’s or from Stacie’s vintage stall at the Viva Las Vegas R’n’R weekender, both purchased in the mid 2000′s.I bought the heels from a friend, two years ago. The earrings are from Etsy this spring, the bakelite bangles are from the US and from the flea market at the High Rockabilly R’n'R weekender this September.

I have been buying and wearing 50’s clothing and accessories – most of it casual - for more than twenty years and I am still doing so. This blog now continues ...
