365 Vintage Days: Silk and Polka Dots

Yesterday evening we enjoyed a really good R’n’R party in Helsinki, in the Kaisaniemi restaurant. Kaisaniemi is a circle shaped wooden restaurant, opened first in the 1830’s, with great outdoors, a good sound and the great atmosphere of historical places.

We have seen many great bands and R’n’R artists in this great setting, including Wanda Jackson in 2005, Huellyn Duvall and many others. And just 10 minutes walk from home…

This time, we had four bands: the Clay Hill Brothers from Finland, the Hub Caps from Sweden, Johnny Red from the UK and finally the Rapiers from the UK, two DJ’s and a great fun dancing, enjoying the music and the company of our friends, in a warm summer night.

Kaisaniemi restaurant is a place where people always dress smart: hence I picked up a turquoise silk dress with white polka dots, a white lucite purse, white heels, pearl loop earrings and a pearl and gold tone charm bracelet. The dress has nice details in the back, a bow and a ”tail”.

I purchased this dress for less than 50 dollars in a vintage shop on Magnolia Avenue in Burbank, California in March: its condition is not perfect but almost, and it fitted me right away!

The purse is from Long Beach’s Flea Market, also in March.

The heels are one of my very old purchases, from the Casablanca vintage shop in Paris, some 15 years ago.

The earrings are from a small Vintage shop in Cambridge, Massachusett, close to the Harvard University and purchased in summer 2008.

I have been buying and wearing 50’s clothing and accessories – most of it casual - for more than twenty years and I am still doing so. This blog now continues ...
