Fintage Fashion Show: Red roses on white, Hollywood style

What I love about the 40’s is the old Hollywood glamour: deadly dames in their long, flattering evening gowns with their fabulous hair dos and delicate little shoes. Femmes fatales dresses to kill with red lips and long cigarette holders (and I don’t even smoke!). I drafted the pattern to this dress myself, true to the style of the early 40’s. This style of dress seems to have been very popular back then and you can find many vintage and reproduction patterns from that era with similar cuts. I found this fabric from the local fabric store. They have these large boxes full of fabric pieces and sometimes you can make some pretty great finds there. The fabric is a lovely and flowy rayon challis. Pain in the behind to handle, but feels amazing to the touch!

The mules are actually 50’s but I thought they fit to the style of this dress pretty well. They’re labelled Maharani and they are an Etsy find as well as the wicker purse which is also 50’s. I just fell in love with the clasp detail on it. As you can see it’s actually a fish. I left home in such a hurry the day this photo was taken I didn’t even remember to wear jewellery let alone gloves! How unladylike!

I'm a clothing designer by education and a self taught seamstress. I fell in love with vintage fashion some 5 years ago and haven't looked back since. I sew the majority of my wardrobe myself, so you'll probably see a lot of vintage reproduction here. My favourite decades are the 40's and 50's.
