Fintage Fashion Show: Autumn colours

I took a little break from the city life and headed to the countryside with my family. It snowed a little in the beginning and I enjoyed wading in the snowy nearby forests with my nephew. I spent relaxed days walking around, sitting by a lake and observing nature. The sun would pamper us most of the days highlighting all the wonderful autumn colours, and making the snow and frost glitter and shine.

Outfit: the shoes are these, probably 1960’s wool jacket bought from lovely Cherise, socks from my mother’s stashes (the tag indicated they were bought in the 1980’s) and all the rest from flea markets. These plus-fours are my favourite pair because of the wide cut, they were deadstock, as well as the beret (both 1950’s). The green and red bag is again something from the recession era, made from whatever was on hand; canvas, paper, cardboard and scraps of leather.

Had there still been some snow when the pictures were taken, I would have matched the landscape pretty well.

A young lady from Tampere, Finland, with a passion for the old days. I have always been an aesthete, which eventually got me into vintage. I wear vintage daily and my pet period is the 1930’s. As certain vintage items are difficult to find I also often make my own clothes drawing inspiration from old magazines and photos. I have a soft spot for old shoes and aspire to surround myself with pretty vintage heels.

Fintage Fashion Show: Oilers Fleamarket

British motorcycle club Oilers arranges once or twice a year a fleamarket, the second fleamarket of the year was few weeks ago. All the sellers are vintage collectors, so it’s always the best place to do some great finds! The place is not big, but it’s full of awesome clothes, purses, shoes, decorations etc.
I was selling and buying there as usual. I tried few dresses on, but they didn’t fit, but I didn’t have to leave empty handed. I bought brown jacket and black Remix-shoes, that were used only once or twice.

I was wearing gray pencil skirt with buttons in front, white blouse with flower embroidery in pink, green and burgundy and white angora cardigan. Gray, green and burgundy bangles and burgundy purse and Remix-shoes. All the other things are from fleamarkets here and there down through the years except the purse, which I bought from Sylvie.
And this jacket is a new find from Oilers. I have already too many coats, but I couldn’t pass this because I didn’t have this kind of brown jacket before

Fintage Fashion Show: Waves

This dress is something I found from my late aunt’s wardrobe a couple of years ago. It did not quite fit me and the print of this 1960’s number was a bit too psychedelic for my taste, but there was something about it that made me want to hang onto it. It is 100% wool and the combination of those neutral colours; grey, beige, yellow and cream, is very pretty. Just the other week I then decided to give it a go. I had to take it in a little bit, mostly to make the skirt narrower. With the right accessories I think it works well for a casual 1920’s sort of look.

I bought this gorgeous 1920’s straw cloche hat from a vintage boutique in Stockholm over a year ago. I found the velvet bag from the same shop a week ago and it instantly became my favourite. The vibrant orange colour matches with my hair and the Art Nouveau quilting details are so unique and lovely. 1920’s shoe candy were purchased from eBay.

Fintage Fashion Show: Hillbilly Western

My husband had a record release party and at the same time we celebrated his birthday with a big crowd, because on the actual birthday was spent with the family. We had a beautiful seaside view from the venue!

I wore two piece rayon gabardine western outfit, including skirt and shirt with suede fringes. The suit is in excellent condition in every way. For a long time I searched a western outfit in particular with skirt and shirt (or vest), so I was very glad when my Spanish friend asked me a couple of years ago if I were interested buying this, before she put it on Ebay.

The label of this outfit is Hillbilly Westerns Denver. The factory has manufactured outfits with this same shirt but combined with pants. I’ve seen them on sale couple of times, but mine is the only one with skirt that I’ve seen.

I also had a brown western purse, cowgirl boots and western belt.

Sylvie of ’365 vintage days’ was there also and we decided to take a picture of our western suits. You can find Sylvies outfit from here too: http://www.fintage.net/blogi/365-vintage-days-ranch-party/

Fintage Fashion Show: Burgundy and white

This dress was an Etsy find about a year ago. It is cut on the bias, except for the upper part of the bodice and the sleeves and has mother-of-pearl buttons and belt buckle. The dress was beautifully made of soft and lightweight cotton. It is in good condition and has a lot of life left in it, but unfortunately the fabric does have some fading here and there, which makes it more of a casual thing to wear, really.

The heels are a good example of 1970’s does 1930’s. They were a bargain at a local flea market. While the shape of the heel drives me crazy (I now realize it was also why I never took a proper picture of the shoes from the side – my apologies, haha) I figured those nice cut-out details were too pretty to pass them by.

Fintage Fashion Show: Pastel Sunday

Last sunday I went to Golden classic car show & cafe in Helsinki with my friends. We were supposed to have just a coke at the cafe, but we had a chance to visit the car show to shoot some pictures and of course we were glad to have that opportunity. One of the cars match my colors, so I chose to have it in the picture with me.

I was wearing a cotton skirt, with white and blue stripes, and some yellow and orange ”dots” here and there. I’ve bought it from a friend few years ago.
The yellow blouse is from Etsy, purchased two years ago and I wore it for the first time, so it was about time!
Super soft light pink cardigan is from Phoenix, purchased a year ago from the shop called Lollipop vintage.
Bangles are from Adolph Rose Antiques, Vicksburg
The purse is Enid Collins’ ”Copy Cats”, which I bought in Summer Jamboree festival, Italy, six years ago.

The belt is from fleamarket and the shoes are modern ones, made in old style tho, both have been in my posts earlier.

Fintage Fashion Show: Yellow day dress

Today I am wearing a yellow day dress. I purchased this dress from vintage flea market of Waltikka Rock and Roll Ball a couple years ago. White springolators are from Siveltto and white box purse is from eBay. Yellow and white flower earrings I found from vintage shop called Nasta years ago.

I will post the next time not earlier than until on the 1st of November.

Tänään olen pukeutunut keltaiseen arkimekkoon, johon valitsin valkoiset asusteet. Ostin mekon joitakin vuosia sitten Waltikka Rock and Roll Ball -vintagekirpparilta. Valkoiset springolatorit löysin pari vuotta sitten Sivletosta ja valkoinen box-laukku on eBay:stä. Keltavalkoiset vahakukkaköynnöskorvikset ovat Nastasta.

Postaan seuraavan kerran aikaisintaan 1. marraskuuta.

MY VINTAGE LIFESTYLE BLOG: THE LUCKY BUBBLES

Dressing in vintage clothing is part of my lifestyle, which is due to my love of music from 1940s to 60s era. Almost all my vintage items date back to 50s and early 60s (small part is already from 40s). In this blog I shall only present vintage items (unless specially noted). Besides collecting vintage items, I love going to parties in good company and having looong hot rod car runs. I will post every other Friday (even numbered week). I hope my outfits will delight you or even better inspire you! By the way, I am not in the Facebook, so I can not comment on those messages. Messages left via Facebook are of course welcome, but I will not be able to comment them in these circumstances. IN FINNISH: Vintage-pukeutuminen on osa elämäntapaani, joka on seurausta rakkaudestani 1940 - 1960-luvun musiikkiin. Lähes kaikki vintageni on 50-luvulta ja 60-luvun alusta (pieni osa on jo 40-luvulta). Tässä blogissa esittelen ainoastaan vintage-tavaroita (ellei toisin mainita). Vintage-keräilyn lisäksi tykkään käydä juhlimassa hyvässä seurassa sekä tehdä pitkiä hot rod -ajeluja. Postaan aina parillisen viikon perjantaina. Toivon, että asuni ilahduttavat, tai vielä parempi, inspiroivat sinua! Muuten, en ole Facebookissa, joten en voi kommentoida Facebookin kautta jätettyjä viestejä. Fintage Fashion Show: Little library of a Vintage Girl – part 1

MY VINTAGE LIFESTYLE BLOG: THE LUCKY BUBBLES

Today is for a change a time for special edition of a posting, instead of full outfits I present this time something else very important according to my vintage hobby. I have had idea of this posting in my mind for a certain time, and I begin it now with this first part and more will follow some other time again.

Tänään on vaihteeksi ”spesiaali postauksen” vuoro, eli kokonaisen asun sijaan esittelen tällä kertaa jotain muuta merkittävää omaan vintage-harrastukseeni liittyen. Idea tästä postauksesta on ollut mielessäni jo jonkin aikaa ja aloitan sen nyt tällä ensimmäisellä osalla ja jatkan ehkä joskus toiste vielä lisää.

As much I like to find vintage for my closets, I like to find information about the history of fashion, designers and manufacturers etc. For this reason I have collected my ”small library”, which I can use for an inspiration and hints for my own outfits.

In this posting I present few of my favorites from my own and my sister’s bookshelf. So something for reading during the darkening autumn nights. I want to present several books at this this time, so the descriptions will be rather short. My intention is not to make full reviews, but just instead of that give some hints about books which are worth of look to inside.

Fashionable Clothing from the Sears Catalogs book series

Fintage Fashion Show: Blue cardigan

It was one of those delightfully sunny early fall days. Sitting at the balcony during midday the sun felt burning hot and you could almost fool yourself into believing it was still summer. But when walking outside, the air was chilly, so this is what I chose to wear.

I made this blue cardigan a couple of years ago, as well as a pair of 1930’s/40’s inspired high waisted slacks with side buttons and cuffs. Later I made a detachable bow out of the same fabric as the trousers. All seen together in the last picture. The knitted skirt is from this set and I’m wearing a thrifted modern cardigan around my shoulders. I found those navy blue suede shoes in July at an outdoors flea market and couldn’t believe my luck as they were my size. They are Finnish made, in pristine condition, hardly worn. There is a stamp inside indicating they were possibly made in the year 1935. The round 30’s shades I bought from Stockholm last summer.
